Kutztown - by Keith Haring Framed Art Print

Keith Haring Kutztown Print

Kutztown refers to the borough in Pennsylvania where Keith Haring grew up as a child. Born to Joan and Allen Haring in 1958, Haring rarely created artworks directly inspired by his childhood or family life, making this Keith Haring Kutztown print particularly notable. The two figures, a man and a woman dressed in old-fashioned clothing, are often interpreted as portraits of Haring’s parents.

The male figure appears on the left with a slender body, a black dot for a head, a V-neck jumper and an oversized formal hat. His arm rests around the female figure, who is shorter and rounder, wearing a simple dress and carrying a large bag. Rendered without facial features, the figures reflect Haring’s distinctive visual language. More abstract than many of his other Keith Haring prints, Kutztown is further emphasised by the flower-like sun in the upper right corner, creating a playful and symbolic composition.
